Falmouth School of Art was originally located at the Passmore Edwards Free Library in the Moor and was later moved to Arwenack Avenue, the foundation stone was laid on 19th August 1901.
Passmore Edwards Free Library in the Moor | School of Art in Arwenack Avenue |
In the 1950s the school moved to 'Rosehill' in Woodlane where it began to flourish in it's surroundings.
In 1969 Falmouth High Street was just as busy as it is today and not much has changed since.
The cafes had a certain quality of emptiness about them, this one was on The Moor (the corner of Quarry Hill and Berkeley Vale)
The Garden Chinese Restaurant on The Moor used to be a favorite of the students at that time.
Next to 'Rosehill' is 'Kerris Vean' that housed the Principal Mr.Finn and his staff, Lionel Miskin had his study there too with the Photography Dept. upstairs run by John Wilkinson.

Michael Finn (Principal) | Peter Redgrove (Complementary Studies: Lecturer) |
Peter Redgove was filmed talking to Jill Donald for the project 'Cathedral' that I made while at Falmouth, here is a short clip from that time. Jill made fabulous giant ceramic cakes and jellies that were coated in a gold and silver glaze.

Dee (Model) | Carol Cheek (student & model) |
Carol played a part in my film as a star struck student chased by Jonathan Pike (Jonathan Pike's Website) who eventually rewarded her with a sizable chocolate bar 'Bunch'. Howard Rees (Music Lecturer) composed the music and student Barbara Allen sang like an angel..........check out the clip below (90 secs).

Some lecturers were super cool, Leonie Heaton shows how.... | ...and she would feed us when we got too thin......like Tony Batey |
Jill Donald had an idea to extend the Banquet project into a dinner at the end of the diploma year in the old Rosehill building, it later became a regular theme................................ rollover mouse for names
The 1971-1972 Prospectus used the original Falmouth Art School location in Arwenack Avenue for the cover......and this is what we had to say for ourselves after 3 years.......(click the pages for enlargement)

A yearly banquet for the students became the norm - this is from 1971 and was too big for the old building so here we are in the new lecture theatre......rollover mouse for names...(if you are here and not named then please contact me for inclusion).
